The
Little Theatre was built on lands purchased from the Government
of Jamaica with funds raised by the annual Pantomimes, and supplemented from donations from the public over the years. Founded by Greta and Henry Fowler, in September
of 1961, the theatre opened
its doors and has remained open since. Over the years,
various adjustments have been made to the structure bringing
it into the twenty first century. The complex includes the Little Theatre, a fully functioning theatre with fly tower and the smaller facility The Little-Little Theatre, a studio-style performing space. It is the home of the National Dance Theatre Company whose studios and office are located on the premises, and the Pantomime Company the ensemble which performs the annual LTM Pantomimes. |

The Little Theatre and the Little Theatre Movement
The Little Theatre is managed by the Board of the Little Theatre Movement, a non-profit cultural organization. The board is drawn from members of the theatre fraternity and members of the wider public. Annual General Meetings are held every year where past and present members of the Pantomime Company, backstage crew, front of house, orchestra and staff of the Little Theatre are presented with the financial accounts of the Movement and decisions on theatre related issues and the way forward are voted on.
Current Board chairman is Hon Barbara Gloudon, O.J; Vice Chairman, Acting Treasurer; Dr Keith Amiel; Secretary: Faith Bucknor. Theatre Manager is Michael McDonald. The LTM manages the Little Theatre and produces the annual national Pantomime staged at the Little Theatre complex.
The work of the LTM is mostly voluntary and proceeds from the theatre rental aids the upkeep of the complex.
The proceeds from the annual pantomime provide the basis of the following year's production. The LTM does not receive funding from the Government and therefore depends on the theatre rentals, ticket sales and some corporate sponsorship in order to continue to fulfill the mandate of the Fowlers that the Little Theatre will continue to provide an outlet for cultural events in Jamaica.
Users of the Theatre(s) include community and amateur groups as well as professional troupes. The range of activities include plays, dance recitals, film viewings, concerts and lectures. For bookings please contact the Theatre Manager at 876-926-6129, 876-926-6603 or by email: littletheatre@cwjamaica.com
