A mysterious deportee is off-loaded by US Marshalls in the community, around the same time as the Browns arrive from England to bring “technology for prosperity” to their hometown. The Mayor, Miss P, welcomes the Browns but soon finds that the other guest - one Bugsie, has strange habits. She is accompanied by a posse of Pink Mealy Bugs. Sidey, Miss P’s sidekick, yields to temptation and offers the strangers lodgings, a decision which he will regret later.

In no time, Bugsie persuades the people to abandon Miss P’s leadership and follow her in the hope of getting visas and other ‘let-off”, they respond to Bugsie’s request to hand over all computerised equipment. Soon these stop working, just around the same time as Bugsie’s appetite for micro chips grows.

Both the Browns and Bugsie own very special barrels. Each is of significance to its owner. When the barrels get misplaced, trouble starts. Bugsie has a special reason for wishing to find her barrel - as do the Browns. The stage is set for a showdown. After all, Bugsie is the Millennium Bug, the dread Y2K (or so people seh) and Miss P wishes to preserve the good old time values.

Can Miss P regain her leadership from Bugsie? Who will the people follow? Will Bugsie stay or go away? Will it all end well? Of course it does. This is the Pantomime, after all… and there’s always "a new time to rise and shine.”
